Dear black couch,

I Enjoy the staff and community here at OBU. I felt like I was supposed to be here in the beginning, but sometimes I can’t help but wonder if I made the wrong choice. How do I know if OBU is really the place for me?

Signed, future transfer student?

I myself struggled with the exact same question, I can tell you right now I know for a fact that eighty percent of the student body feels the exact same too. You are so not alone in this feeling.

OBU has great staff and a great sense of community for the most part but it is and can be very easy to feel secluded or not welcomed individually. There are many events and things to try and make students feel welcomed, but if this is your question I’m guessing that’s not necessarily your problem.

Maybe it’s when you’re alone after these events or hanging out with friends when you question your decision the most. A big part of college is learning to be ok with just yourself in one sense. It can feel lonely, but you are never alone when you are content with your relationship with christ.

If you feel like this isn’t your problem and you are just having trouble making friends and feeling connected to campus, then you should do more to be involved in the school. Join extracurriculars that align with your interest. There are so many clubs!

Sometimes the answer is to transfer. Sounds harsh but true. Just make sure you aren’t transferring for the wrong reasons. Be able to say you gave your all to OBU before you decide if it’s the right place for you. Pray about it and meditate on the questions: What is God wanting me to do? What can I do to be my best self for him?

In all honesty I may not be the most qualified person to answer this question. From my own experience I can one hundred percent say I didnt think OBU was for me until I gave it my all. When you put yourself out there it can make so much room for positive change. Sometimes we need to be uncomfortable to grow and putting yourself out there can be uncomfortable.
