About The Bison

The Bison is a student-led newspaper of Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, Oklahoma, operated under the direction of the Assistant Professor of Journalism, Holly Easttom. Publications are made weekly on Wednesdays, adhering to the academic calendar set by the university. The organization produces 11 issues each fall and spring semester and has a weekly circulation of around 1,500 newspapers. If you are interested in receiving a printed copy of the newspaper by mail, a semester-long subscription is available for $30.

Since The Bison commissions writers from varying faiths, majors, and backgrounds, the opinions expressed in an issue do not necessarily represent the university’s student body, alumni, faculty, or administration. However, the team of editors ensures that all content featured in The Bison reflects Christ-centered behavior, from its drafting to its final publication, by following the mission established by the university.

The Bison is a member of the Associated Collegiate Press, the Student Press Law Center, the Journalism Educators Association, the Oklahoma Collegiate Press Association, and Freedom of Information Oklahoma. All content published in The Bison is protected by copyright (©2011 The Bison), and any use is prohibited without the written consent of the editor-in-chief or the supervising faculty.
