Each fall, Oklahoma Baptist University students gather for Biggie, a Campus Activities Board show that combines comedy, music, skits and student performances.
This year’s free event is scheduled for Oct. 23 in the RAWC. A start time has not yet been announced.
Britten Bengs, Campus Activities Board vice president, described Biggie as a variety show with an overarching plot and acts that may be musical or funny. A stage band provides the music.
She compared the format to “Saturday Night Live.”
Each year brings a new theme, which CAB plans to announce on its Instagram page.
Bengs said this year’s show will be different from those the board has produced in the past.
Students attending Biggie can expect more than a night of watching performances.
Bengs said audience members are greeted when they arrive, and many dress up for the occasion.
An intermission gives students time to get a snack and visit with friends before the second half of the show.
For students who have never attended, Bengs said the event may be a surprise. Some expect a traditional play, but Biggie includes a range of acts and can involve the audience.
Students from different majors and campus groups take part, and professors sometimes join the show.
“It is fun, and it’s free, and it’s a great way to get involved in OBU and spend time with your friends,” Bengs said.
She called it “a good time to relax, take a breath, and remember that school is fun.”
The finished performance represents weeks of work by CAB members and other students. Planning a theme, organizing acts, rehearsing and coordinating the music all require teamwork.
Bengs said her favorite part is the week leading up to Biggie, when she gets to watch the pieces come together. She also described show day as “electric.”
CAB will post the theme and start time on its Instagram page before the Oct. 23 performance.
