With the spring semester zooming by, Blitz Week is here and so is students’ opportunity to participate in serving others. April 4, 7 and 11, the Art Club hosted nights of painting and creating in preparation of Blitz Week auctions.

Donations from the auction will benefit this Blitz Week’s charity Beautiful Dream Society.

“Blitz Week co-chair Jordan Spencer, emailed me and wanted art students to make art to donate to the Blitz Week Art Auction,” art club member Abigail Meredith said.

“I proposed that Art Club host nights where students, art or not, could come and make art to donate.”

Meredith believes that these art nights were more beneficial to the cause, as well as fun to attend, due to the laid back atmosphere.

“As an art student myself, I know I don’t have a lot of time or motivation to work on projects outside of classes,” Meredith said.“So two hours in an environment where we’re accustomed to making art, surrounded by other students who are also working, would be a relaxing and productive time.”

While the organized nights of art creation have ended, Meredith encourages students interested in donating their artwork to get involved this week.

“Contact Jordan Spencer before Easter Sunday if you have art to donate,” Meredith said.“Also, look at and bid on the wonderful work during the Blitz Week Auction. There’s a large variety of pieces, so you’ll find something you’ll like for sure.”

Events like the art night held last week not only make an impact, but give students a break to have fun.

“The charity is a good charity that’s dong really wonderful work, so contributing or buying art helps that organization considerably,” Meredith said.

“I like that my efforts actually make an impact, and that I can have fun doing it.”

Meredith particularly enjoys when artists work together with causes such as Blitz Week and Beautiful Dream Society.

“I love when art and self-expression goes to a good cause,” Meredith said.

According to Meredith, there will be more events to participate in the art club near the end of the semester.

“Art Club will be hosting other art events in the future, so keep a lookout for those,”  Meredith said.

For students interested in donating art specifically for Blitz Week, the annual Paintathon will be hosted on Sunday night April 16 from 7 p.m to 3 a.m.
