OBU is pleased to welcome its new Director of Student Success, Kirt Henderson, to the prestigious faculty.
“I’ve worked with him for a few weeks now, and he seems to be a great fit,” Milburn Student Success Center secretary Helen Lee said.
Before coming to OBU, Henderson grew up in Harrah, Oklahoma, a mere 20 miles away from the OBU campus.
From 2006 to 2010, Henderson was an undergraduate at OBU, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Religion with an emphasis on Bible.
Until he accepted his current position, Henderson’s career consisted exclusively with serving prospective students as an admissions counselor.
“I enjoyed that work [admissions counselor] greatly, but after almost six years, I desired to switch to a role where I could serve current student and enhance their college experience,” he said.
Henderson said that he’d like to see a larger number of students being served.
“He seems to connect well with students,” Lee said. “He has a good listening ear and a lot of knowledge since he worked here as an admissions counselor.”
Success Center worker and OBU junior elementary education major Rachel Linton agreed with Lee.
“Kirt is very friendly,” Linton said. “He is always smiling and encouraging the employees of the Success Center.“He jumped right in, learning how everything worked and where it could still be improved.”
Henderson said that he would like to see enhanced relationship with all the faculty and academic deans.
Henderson was also glad to see how efficiently the Success Center was run.
“I hope that when our mentors ultimately graduate from OBU, they can look back at their time in the Success Center as formative in their development as a person and lifelong learner.”
Henderson’s connection with OBU includes more than his education and current position.
Before accepting the title of Director of Student Success, Henderson served OBU as assistant director of admissions, admissions counselor and senior admissions counselor.
“OBU has served such an important role in my development as a person and professional,” Henderson said.
“The Director of Student Success seemed like a great opportunity to serve current students at a place that I love.”
Henderson entered his new position at OBU Oct. 10, 2016. He said that in the short amount of he has had in his position, everything he has observed about the center has been overwhelmingly positive.
Lee said she feels Henderson fits his new position very well.
“He connects very well as a leader of our staff at the Sucess Center,” Lee said.“He’s also able to advise students very well and connect with them.
“He’s just an all around great fit.”
