There are so many potential clubs and organizations to consider. From sports to academics, there truly is something for everyone. However, it is always enjoyable to meet new like-minded people and build true relationships along the way.
There are a total of six social clubs here at OBU, three for women and three for men. With each club being unique in its own way, there is no doubt that there is a place for you.
Pi Sigma Phi is a social club for our women here on Bison Hill. With fun events such as prayer retreats, the Barn Bash and a Christmas party, these girls love to have fun while shining the light of the Lord on all those around them.
Brooklyn Demaree, the president of Pi Sigma Phi, discussed her organization’s philosophy.
“Our motto, ‘Together our hearts grow As one in Christ,’ reflects our desire to encourage one another, grow spiritually, and create lasting friendships throughout our college years. Inspired by Proverbs 31:25-31, we strive to be women of strength, dignity, kindness, and faith while also enjoying all the fun and memories that come with sisterhood.”
Kappa Phi Beta is another social club for women. Its purpose is as follows: “We the sisters of Kappa Phi Beta do hereby constitute a unified gathering of Christ centered fellowship. The purpose of Kappa Phi Beta is to connect with our fellow sisters to create a lifelong Christian unity, impact the campus of Oklahoma Baptist University and the Shawnee community, all the while shining the light of Christ’s love.”
With exciting events such as Chacos and Tacos, prayer retreats, Kappa Krush, tailgates, Kappa Phi’s and Bow Ties, and more, these girls love to use the Lord and his Love to gather and celebrate life with their sisters.
Theta Sigma Chi is the final social club for women here on Bison Hill. Its purpose is as follows: “We, the women of Theta Sigma Chi, have solemnly resolved to constitute a social body into a social-service organization, and to all its members promote social justice, expression of thought, spiritual life, equality, and a sisterhood assuring the dignity of the individual and the organization.”
With intriguing events such as Date-a-Theta, prayer retreats, Queso and Karaoke, and both Father-Daughter and Mother-Daughter day, you are ensured to have a fun semester with your sisters!
Don’t worry boys; there’s a place for you too. Beta Gamma Theta is one of the three social clubs for young men here on Bison Hill.
Its purpose is as follows: “The brothers of Beta Gamma Theta, in an effort to continually develop their pursuit of a Christ-centered life, seek brotherhood with one another, focused on encouraging all persons at Oklahoma Baptist University, as well as all persons in any community in which they take part. Beta Gamma Theta bases this pursuit on the understanding that ‘Two are better than one because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up!’ (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10).”
With engaging events such as a fall cookout and volleyball tournament, a winter hot chocolate bar and bonfires, you are ensured to have an amazing time while building intentional relationships with your brothers.
Lambda Chi Lambda is another social group for the men here on Bison Hill. Its purpose is as follows: “The brotherhood of Lambda Chi Lambda is established to create one unified campus body, bolster a firm community, and endow leadership and fellowship within its membership. The pillars of membership in Lambda are based on the intent for members to strive to grow spiritually, academically, and socially. This collective brotherhood seeks to build confidence, instill virtues and continue to grow in spiritual maturity.”
With numerous fun events such as Flannels and Flapjacks, Pumpkin and Coconut Games, Neon Party, member retreats, Cereal Social, Homecoming Tailgate and more, there will never be a dull moment within Lambda Chi Lambda!
Finally, we have Omega Chi Delta, whose purpose is as follows: “We the brothers of Omega Chi Delta do hereby constitute a unified gathering of Christ-centered fellowship. The purpose of Omega Chi Delta is to connect with our fellow brothers to create a lifelong Christian unity and impact the campus of Oklahoma Baptist University and the Shawnee community, all the while shining the light of Christ’s love.”
With enriching events such as serving at the Salvation Army, Halloween Bash, B-dubs and Basketball, and many game nights, you will not only build relationships with your brothers around you but with the community as well.
