Formula 1 sees an infusion of young talent alongside high-profile team changes as the 2025 season kicks off with a redesigned driver lineup, November 11, 2024.

As the 2025 Formula 1 season approaches, the grid is welcomed to change with new talents and team changes that have caused fans to anticipate the new season.
From young faces like joining Mercedes to Lewis Hamilton’s switch to Ferrari, these moves provide a strategic shift for teams aiming to challenge Red Bull’s dominance on the grid. The new 2025 season will launch on March 16 at Australia’s Albert Park, marking the start of a 24-race calendar that propels excitement for all fans.
Mercedes made headlines by promoting Italian teenager Andrea Kimi Antonelli to replace Hamilton, pairing him with George Russell. Antonelli had a strong record in formula 2 and had been in touch with Mercedes for quite some time. The principal of Mercedes, Toto Wolff, has known Antonelli since he was a young boy. Antonelli will be the youngest driver on the grid in the 2025 season as an 18-year-old.
Toto Wolff made his decision to sign the teenager quickly saying, “I made up my mind five minutes after Lewis Hamilton told me that he’s going to Ferrari.”
At Ferrari, Charles Leclerc is now joined by Hamilton himself, which makes one of the most high-profile moves in recent F1 history. Charles had a positive reaction to the news saying, “Lewis is an incredible driver, the most successful in history, with a lot of experience as well, which he will bring to the team and obviously myself, which is a good thing”.
Alpine has signed Jack Doohan, a promising talent who will team up with Pierre Gasly, following Esteban Ocon’s transfer to Haas. In return, Haas signed 19-year-old, Ollie Bearman. Bearman is a product of Ferrari’s driver academy and a reserved driver for Ferrari. Because of his background, along with Formula 2, the Formula 1 fans are most familiar with him.
“To say out loud that I will be a Formula 1 driver for Haas F1 Team makes me so immensely proud,” Bearman said.
The Williams team has gone against the young generational grain by bringing in Carlos Sainz to join Alex Albon. Sainz, previously with Ferrari, will take his expertise to Williams, a team striving to return to prominence.
In 2021 Carlos Sainz joined the Scuderia Ferrari team and made his name known with 25 podiums. William’s is a nine-time constructors’ champion, however, the most recent being in 1997. Many fans believe Sainz deserves to go to a winning team, not one that is competing for the back half of the grid. Ferrari fan, Ian Graham says, “I think the vast majority of F1 fans see the talent Sainz has and wishes it wouldn’t be wasted by joining Williams, but it seems that was his only advantageous option at this point in his career.”
For Red Bull, the duo of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez remains the same, providing the team with familiarity and drive to continue defending the constructor’s championship. With Verstappen, who’s been a consistent pole sitter on the grid, alongside Perez, who is more of a team player and strategist for Verstappen, makes the Red Bull team look good for another championship. Their combined efforts will help Red Bull dominate the 2025 season, putting both drivers in the spotlight as they continue to grow the team’s competitive edge.
