Anna Kae Morris is the OBU campus nurse. Her office is located in the upper GC, room 206. Morris is originally from Mississippi, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in 2016.
“I graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2016 and worked as a nurse in multiple emergency departments and trauma centers before moving to Shawnee in 2019 with my husband, Tanner when he accepted a position at OBU in the athletic department. I worked in the St. Anthony Shawnee ER until I accepted the job as OBU campus nurse in October 2022” said Morris.
Students needing medical attention are able to use the Team Clinics link located under the “Health Services” page on the OKBU website.
The appointments can be billed through the student’s medical insurance, or students can choose the “self pay” option if they do not have insurance.
“Once students arrive, they will have their vital signs checked, an assessment done by the campus nurse, and the students can also be tested for Flu A+B, Covid 19, Strep A, and urinalysis. Then we will join a zoom call with a TEAM Clinics provider” said Morris.
The campus clinic has an otoscope that allows the doctor to look in the patient’s ears and throat via zoom, as well as a stethoscope that can be plugged into the computer for the doctor to hear their heart and lungs.
Once the assessment is completed, the doctor can electronically send prescriptions to the student’s preferred pharmacy for them to pick up.
“The campus clinic also offers free “nurse only” visits, where the students can have their vital signs checked, assessed by the campus nurse, receive wound care, or medical advice” said Morris.
This is a very useful service offered by the university, giving students convenient, and free medical care.
Students who are unable to make it to GC 206 have the ability to talk to their RD and schedule a “dorm call” so the nurse can come to them.
The campus clinic can also provide free, over-the-counter medications such as Ibuprofen, Tylenol, Benadryl, etc. And is equipped with some emergency medications like epi pens and dextrose. There are also basic medical items such as band aids, ice packs, and even crutches and a wheelchair if the student should need it.
Morris said she is extremely open to suggestions or requests if students should have any other medical need that they need provided.
The campus clinic is open for TEAM Clinic appointments Monday-Thursday from 9am-7pm. Nurse only visits are available Monday-Thursday From 9am-3pm.
