College Players, Oklahoma Baptist University’s oldest student club, will host “DJ and Dragons,” a Renaissance fair and glow-in-the-dark party, Oct. 9 from 6 to 10:30 p.m. in the Oval.

The Renaissance fair will take place from 6 to 8 p.m., followed by the glow-in-the-dark party from 8 to 10:30 p.m.

The idea originated with Tiffany Mijares, a senior natural science major, who said she wanted to create a larger event that connected OBU and Shawnee communities.

“I wanted to see bigger events at OBU and more collaboration with the greater Shawnee community,” Mijares said. “I wanted a space for people inside and outside of OBU to hang out, have a mini Renaissance fair and get to know other people.”

Mijares and other College Players officers — including co-presidents Brianna Arledge, a senior biochemistry major, and Sierra Stanley, a ministry major; and vice president Reese Janik, a junior English major — worked with the club to bring the event to life.

The Renaissance fair will include booths and tables where students and community members can display crafts, art and club projects. Afterward, the glow-in-the-dark party will feature music and dancing.

“It’s free to come, and we’re just really excited to see the whole community come together,” Stanley said.

College Players leaders emphasized the club’s long history at OBU and its welcoming atmosphere.

“I’m really excited for DJ and Dragons because not only do I get to meet more of the OBU campus and community — which is the whole reason this idea came to life in the first place — but I also get to tell more people about theatre and College Players,” Arledge said. “I just hope to brighten up someone’s day so they can dress up, de-stress and have fun.”
