The stage in Potter Auditorium at Raley Chapel was decorated to resemble a red carpet affair last Saturday and the students of Bison Hill definitely brought their talent and enthusiasm.

Saturday, April 17, OBU’s Campus Activities Board hosted their annual Spring Affair show. This show marked the first CAB show in Potter Auditorium since the spring of 2019. The theme of this year’s show was Spring Affair Awards and resembled an awards show like the Oscars or the Golden Globes. Seating was limited to promote social distancing.

Between acts, the emcees brought the laughs with funny skits surrounding award show drama including plot-lines about unrequited love, fashion and Mackenzie Falls. The emcees were Janai Albertson, Miranda Toland, Jackson Drakulich, Caleb Corff and Rayann Williams.

The show featured six different musical acts. They were: Laura Stewart and Rachel Darvin, Colton Martin, Nathan’s BDay Band, Layne Grady, Caylin Clouber and Tyler Bruce and JP Edward Flat. Each act brought their own flavor to the stage and there was a cohesive musical theme throughout the entire show.

The first act of the night was Laura Stewart and Rachel Darvin performing a moving song on the violin and piano. Their performance was an excellent start to the evening and set the tone for the acts to come. (And their color-coordinated gowns were awesome).

Between acts, the CAB Stage Band gave excellent performances of different songs. This year’s stage band was: Caleb Dyer, Katie Logan, Lauren Jones, Tyler Koonce, Micah Compton, Chester Brown, Brock Currie and Brock Brown. Notable performances from the band include Brock Brown’s crowd-favorite performance of “Ain’t No Sunshine” by Bill Withers. Other songs by the band were “If I Ain’t Got You” by Alicia Keys, “I Knew You Were Trouble” by Taylor Swift and “She Will Be Loved” by Maroon 5. Their performance at the show was one that created energy and excitement in the room.

The next act was Colton Martin, who performed an original song while he sang and played his acoustic guitar. It showed a great sense of vulnerability and passion for his music to play an original song at such a big show.

Nathan’s BDay Band performed “Skyfall” by Adele. The song was sung by Raelyn Williamson. The group also included Kyle Tooley, Caleb Dyer, Rachel Compton, Nathan Chan, Micah Compton and Dallas Page. The group performed very well together and the vocal harmonies added by Rachel Compton and Caleb Dyer were great. (Also, Happy Birthday, Nathan.)

One of the funniest moments of the night was the In Memoriam video sketch which mourned the loss of so many things that we held dear on Bison Hill including the side door of The Geiger Center, civ classes in Shawnee Hall and more.

Next, Layne Grady performed a piano arrangement of the song “Once Upon a December” from Anastasia. It was a beautiful performance.

Caylin Clouber sang “Lady in Blue” by Lizzie McAlpine and was accompanied on the guitar by Tyler Bruce. Clouber has a lovely voice that was complemented well by the guitar.

Finally, JP Edward Flat performed “Sir Duke” by Stevie Wonder. The group was made up of: Makalah Jessup, Chester Brown, Devon Armstrong, Cameron Clark, Alex Benito and Tyler Smothers. Their performance was high-energy and fun, bringing the acts of the night to a close. They were named the winners of the night.

The Stage Band ended the night with a final song as the acts, emcees and CAB members took their bows.
