During the third week of April, the annual Blitz Week tradition takes place. Blitz Week gives students the opportunity to have fun and make a difference.

“In short, Blitz Week is a week in which we, as a committee, put on various events throughout the semester with the goal of providing as much funding as possible to a certain non-profit organization of the committee’s choosing,” senior exercise science major and senior co-chair of Blitz Week, Tyre Terry said.

“We serve non-profits on three different levels: the local level, national level and also the international level, and each year we chose a different level.”

This year the Blitz Week committee has chosen to give all proceeds to the families impacted by Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico through the North American Mission Board.

“The reason why this organization or cause was chosen was that we, as Blitz Week, wanted to have the theme of OBU cares about those who are hurting around us, we care about the less fortunate, we care about the gospel being spread, and we care about what breaks God’s heart,” Terry said.

“We were originally going to fund the reconstruction of Houston, but as we did further research, we saw that Puerto Rico was in far worse shape. We also wanted to spur on the idea of having people participating in more disaster relief training and go on more disaster relief trips.”

Throughout the week, not only will shirts be for sale in the lower GC, daily events will be available for anyone to participate in.

Sunday, the Paint-a-thon took place in the lower GC from 7 p.m. – 3 a.m. The items made during the Paint-a-thon will be auctioned off all week.

Monday, not only was there Blitz Week Chapel, but also Mr. Bison in Yarborough at 7 p.m. Heath McClure, a junior, won Mr. Bison.

Tuesday, Trivia Night took place at 7 p.m. in the Upper GC.

Tonight, Wednesday night, is Qdoba night from 5 p.m. until closing. 10 percent of the proceeds will go to the disaster relief if you drop your receipt in the basket by the cash register.

Thursday is the Varsity vs. Faculty basketball game at 7 p.m. in the Noble complex. Friday, there will be an Escape Room in the library at 5 p.m.

Saturday, during Spring Affair in Raley Chapel, donation buckets will be passed around.

Humans vs. Zombies will also be taking place all week long.

“This year we have been blessed to work alongside UCS for Trivia Night and have a donation bucket during Spring Affair through CAB,” sophomore family community service major, Braeden Mastin said.

“Our hope is for the campus to come together to help others around the world in dire need of help.”

Blitz Week is an annual event that strives to make a difference outside of Bison Hill.

“OBU has Blitz Week in order to show the light of the world by serving and helping others across the world in need through donations,” Mastin said.

According to Terry, the reason behind Blitz Week is to give OBU the chance to give to those in need.

“Blitz Week brings the student body together by not only having fun events, but most of all it causes us to help with something that bigger than ourselves,” Terry said. “It shows us to be aware of hurting people around us and serve them and not to sit back and act like nothing is wrong, but take action.”
