The Lady Bison volleyball team took down the reigning GAC champions, Southwest Oklahoma State, Tuesday afternoon in the Noble Complex.
“We improved at making adjustments, terminating the ball and playing tougher in defense,” head coach Anna Howle said.
OBU jumped out to a good start in the first set, going up 6-3.
Kills from multiple players contributed to the Lady Bison finishing the set at 25-18.
After trailing 5-3 at the start of the second set, OBU set parity with the Bulldogs at 7-7 and then came on top at the end with a 25-18.
OBU behind again in the third set until points from Richie, Shekinah Sharpe, and Nicole Fleitman gave them the lead at 8-7 and earned a straight third set victory and a game win of 3-0.
On Thursday the Lady Bison took on Ouachita Baptist in Arkadelphia, Arkansas.
“We had a very rough start, but we really came together and played excellent defense in the end of the match,” Howle said.
What started off as a tight competition in the first set turned into a set victory for Ouachita with the Lady Bison having a slow offensive stretch.
The score remained close for the majority of the second set until Fleitman came alive to give OBU a 25-20 victory.
The Lady Bison took the next two sets to send the match into a fifth and final set.
They came out behind by two halfway through when four kills from Richie propelled OBU to win the match 3-2.
Finally, the Lady Bison took on Henderson State on Friday, looking to close out the week with another win. They took the first match after starting off ahead at an impressive 8-1 and only having two errors in the whole set.
A lot of back-and-forth play occurred in the second until HSU went up 22-20 late in the set.
Howle called a timeout and OBU came back out in full force as they rallied to win the set and gain a 2-0 lead in the match.
The Lady Bison went ahead early in the third set, and even though HSU came close deep in the set at 23-22, OBU wisely dominated and ended up winning the match 3-0.
